Hiroshima Municipal Stadium, Baseball stadium in Naka-ku, Hiroshima, Japan
Hiroshima Municipal Stadium was a baseball facility in Naka-ku, Hiroshima, that no longer stands today. In its place is an open park with trees and walkways that has kept a portion of the right field seating section.
The facility opened on July 20, 1957, and served as the home of the Hiroshima Toyo Carp for over five decades. It closed in 2009 and was mostly torn down afterward, though one small seating section was kept.
After the new ballpark was built, the site remained as a wooded recreation area, and visitors today can walk through the park that once held the playing field. In some spots, signs recall the former use of the land without disturbing the quiet setting.
The park is open to the public and can be visited during daylight hours, with the remaining seating section located at the edge of the grounds. The surroundings are flat and easy to walk, with shade available under the trees on warm days.
The kept seating section is roughly 35 meters wide and six meters tall, standing as the only visible relic of the former facility. It was deliberately left so that later generations could touch a tangible piece of the city's baseball past.
