Tsuruma Park, Park in Japan
Tsuruma Park is a sports park in Nagoya that opened in 1909 as the city's first park. It features a Western-style garden with flower beds and a fountain on the west side, a Japanese-style garden with two ponds on the east side, tennis courts, a baseball field, a playground, and a library housed in a historic building.
The park was founded in 1909 as Nagoya's first park and has carried over a century of history. In 2006 it was recognized as one of Japan's hundred historical parks, and in 2009 it received national memorial site status.
The park serves as a gathering place for Nagoya residents, where people regularly walk, exercise together, and celebrate seasonal festivals with music and shared meals. Morning groups perform calisthenics, families spend afternoons here, and the space hosts community events throughout the year.
The park is easy to reach by train as Tsuruma station is nearby, and there are also bus lines and parking lots available for about 180 cars. It is open year-round and offers different blooms and trees to explore in each season, making it a welcoming destination regardless of weather conditions.
A highlight is approximately 750 cherry trees in the Japanese garden that bloom in spring and rank among the best cherry blossom viewing spots in the area. Many visitors come specifically during this season to picnic under the flowering trees and experience the traditional festival feeling.
