浄運寺

Joujunji is a Buddhist temple in Machida featuring a main hall accessed by a carefully laid stone pathway. Along the walkway stand twelve animal statues representing the signs of the traditional lunar calendar, arranged on both sides of the route.

The temple was founded in 1577 by Buddhist monk Nichimei and later received official recognition. In 1637, it came under the patronage of the Muto family, which provided the sanctuary with stability and local influence.

The temple houses Bishamonten, one of the Seven Lucky Gods of Haramachida, and visitors today still come here to pray at this deity's shrine. The presence of this god attracts those seeking protection and good fortune, connecting the temple to living religious customs of the local community.
