Mount Aono, Lava dome in Tsuwano, Japan.
Mount Aono rises 907 meters above sea level, forming a distinct inverted bowl shape with a large valley on its northern side.
The mountain served as a strategic landmark for fishermen navigating the Japan Sea and provided training grounds for domain retainers during feudal times.
The mountain stands near Shourinzan Tenmangu Shrine, built in 1663 when chief retainer Tago Mondo transferred the sacred goshintai object to this location.
The hiking trail spans 2.1 kilometers to the summit, requiring approximately 2.5 hours to complete with an elevation gain of 800 meters.
Local guides teach visitors to identify poisonous and edible plants while sharing information about bear safety measures during mountain ascents.
