Yōmei-ji, Buddhist temple in Tsuwano, Japan
The main temple building features a traditional thatched roof structure and stands alongside a garden with a 10-meter waterfall feeding into a central pond.
Founded in 1420 by Lord Yoshimi Yorihiro, Yōmei-ji served as the family temple for the Kamei clan, who controlled the Tsuwano domain from 1617.
The temple functions as a Zen training facility within the Soto school, maintaining traditional Buddhist practices and meditation sessions for monks.
Located 10 minutes from Tsuwano Station, the temple welcomes visitors daily from 09:00 to 16:00 with admission fees ranging from 150 to 300 yen.
The temple cemetery contains the grave of renowned writer Mori Ogai, marked with his birth name Mori Rintaro following his specific instructions.
