Archi-Depot Museum, Architectural museum in Tennōzu Isle, Japan.
The Archi-Depot Museum is an architectural museum in Tokyo that houses over 220 models displayed in temperature-controlled storage units within an industrial building. The collection spans different periods and shows a wide range of designs and approaches to building.
The museum was founded in 2016 through a partnership with the Terrada warehouse company. This collaboration made it possible to collect architectural models and keep them safe for future generations.
The museum displays work by Japanese architects such as Kengo Kuma and Shigeru Ban alongside international designs. The collection shows how different building traditions and contemporary approaches come together in one place.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and you should allow enough time to walk through the models at your own pace. The building is located in Higashi-Shinagawa and is easy to reach by public transportation.
The information plates next to each model include QR codes that take visitors to additional digital content about the architectural projects. This connects the physical pieces on display with expanded online information.
