Sesoko Bridge, Concrete bridge in Motobu, Japan.
Sesoko Bridge is a concrete road bridge in northern Okinawa that links the Motobu Peninsula to the small offshore Sesoko Island, running about 762 meters over open water. It follows a straight alignment and serves as the only land connection to the island.
The bridge was built in the early 1980s and completed in February 1985, giving the island its first road connection for vehicles. Before that, Sesoko could only be reached by boat, which made daily life considerably harder for people living there.
The bridge links to Sesoko Island, where visitors can see local potters at work and observe traditional crafts being made in small studios. Walking through the island's narrow paths, you notice how everyday objects blend with artistic traditions that communities have maintained for generations.
The bridge is free to cross by car or on foot and is easy to reach from either side. Visiting early in the morning or in the late afternoon gives you clearer views over the water and lighter traffic.
A coral reef sits just beneath the bridge, drawing divers and snorkelers who come specifically to explore the marine life in that spot. This makes the crossing one of the few places where you travel over and swim through the same ecosystem in a single visit.
