Nago Castle, Castle ruins in Nago, Japan
Nago Castle is a castle ruin on Mount Nago featuring ancient limestone walls and stone staircases spread across a large forested park setting. The remains form a connected archaeological site with multiple areas to explore throughout the grounds.
The castle was built in the early 14th century as a residence for the Aji of Nago Magiri. It was conquered in 1416 by Chuzan forces under the command of Sho Hashi.
The site hosts cherry blossom celebrations each January that draw visitors from across the region and mark an important moment in the local calendar. These events shape how people in the area experience and gather at the location throughout the year.
The park is divided into several marked zones with designated pathways and different routes for various interests. Rest areas and observation points are scattered throughout the site, and spaces for children are available.
The site has a three-story observation tower offering views of the East China Sea and surrounding mountains. This tower is a quiet spot to enjoy the landscape and take in the entire grounds from above.
