Ōme Plum Park, Public plum garden in Ome, Japan
Ōme Plum Park is a public garden in the town of Ōme containing about 1200 plum trees that produce pink and white flowers during late winter months. The grounds feature landscaped paths and open areas that organize the trees across different zones.
The park was founded in March 1972 and became an important location for plum cultivation in the Tokyo metropolitan area. In 2014, all trees had to be removed due to a virus infection and were replaced with new specimens.
Locals and visitors gather here during blossom season to enjoy the flowers and spend time outdoors together. The annual festival that coincides with blooming draws crowds and transforms the park into a gathering place for neighbors and families.
The park is best reached via the JR Chuo Line, which goes to Ōme Station, from where buses provide connections to the garden. Visit in late winter months when the trees are in full bloom for the best experience.
The park was so severely affected by a virus that a complete renewal of all trees became necessary, a rare situation for such an established garden. This total transformation allowed the collection to be updated with newer varieties.
