Ome Railway Park, Railway museum in Nagayama Park, Tokyo, Japan
Ome Railway Park is an open-air railway museum in Nagayama Park, Ome, Japan, featuring historic steam locomotives and modern rolling stock. The grounds extend across several levels and provide direct access to the exhibits along paved paths.
The museum opened in 1962 during the 90th anniversary celebrations of the first railway line in Japan and began collecting retired locomotives from the start. The collection grew gradually through donations from railway companies and government agencies.
The outdoor exhibition grounds display the early development stages of Japanese rail transport through preserved locomotives from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. School groups regularly visit the grounds and learn about technical progress by examining the exhibited vehicles.
The grounds are located about 15 minutes on foot from Ome Station and are suitable for visitors of all ages. Admission is low and allows for several hours of exploration without time limits.
Several driver cabins remain open for visitors and allow entry into the compartments for a close look at the original controls. The museum grounds also include a detailed railway model at 1:80 scale with moving trains.
