Fugaku Wind Cave, Natural monument lava tube in Fujikawaguchiko, Japan.

Fugaku Wind Cave is a lava tube in Fujikawaguchiko that stretches about 200 meters long with ceilings reaching about 9 meters high. The interior stays cool throughout the year with constant temperatures, creating an underground space that feels distinctly different from the world above.

The cave formed from a Mount Fuji eruption in 864 when cooling lava flows shaped this underground void. This geological process created a space that has changed little since it formed.

Local stories connect this place to a dragon deity that once inhabited an ancient lake where the cave now stands. Visitors can sense this spiritual heritage in the way the site is revered by the community today.

The entrance is relatively easy to access, but visiting requires preparation for cool conditions inside year-round. Wearing warmer clothing is wise even on warm days outside.

The basalt walls contain luminescent moss that creates greenish-gold reflections, known locally as Dragon's gold or goblin gold. This unexpected natural feature gives the place a distinctive visual quality.
