Kanakurayama Kofun

Kanakurayama Kofun is a keyhole-shaped burial mound in Okayama comprised of a large round section connected to a rectangular platform. The two-part structure creates the characteristic silhouette typical of important tombs from this era.

This burial mound was constructed in the fourth century as part of Japan's tradition of monumental tomb building. Scientific investigations conducted in the 1950s revealed details about its internal structure and construction methods.

The site contains numerous ceramic figures called haniwa, including representations of shields, quivers, houses, domestic fowl, and dishes from the fourth century.
