Sino-Japanese Peace Treaty Memorial Hall

The Sino-Japanese Peace Treaty Memorial Hall occupies the original site of the former Shunpanro inn in Shimonoseki. The museum displays exhibits related to the 1895 peace agreement that concluded the First Sino-Japanese War and marked a turning point in East Asian relations.

The building was constructed between 1935 and 1937 to commemorate the 1895 Treaty of Shimonoseki, which ended the First Sino-Japanese War. This agreement marked a major shift in power dynamics across East Asia and established Japan as a dominant regional force.

The hall displays items from the 1895 peace negotiations, including a replica conference table and original chairs used during the talks. Visitors can see photographs and calligraphy from that period, which help bring the diplomatic meetings to life.
