Kanmon Strait Museum

The Kanmon Strait Museum is a glass-walled structure shaped like a ship situated in a historic waterfront area. From multiple levels, visitors can observe passing vessels through large windows while exploring exhibits about maritime activity in the region.

The museum opened in 2003 to document the maritime history of the strait, which has connected two sea regions since ancient times. The exhibits demonstrate how important this waterway has been for trade and transportation across centuries.

The exhibition halls contain detailed dioramas created by Japanese and Czech artists portraying key figures and moments connected to the strait. Visitors can see how artists from different countries have visualized local maritime stories.

The museum is located near a major train station and is easy to reach by public transit. Visitors should allow enough time to explore all levels and use the windows for observing ship traffic.
