Mojikō Retro High Mart, Residential tower in Mojikō Retro district, Japan.
Mojikō Retro High Mart is a 31-story residential tower that rises 127 meters above the port area of Moji-ku. The building features glass walls and modern design, with a café and observation room located in the upper floors.
The building was designed in 1999 by architect Kisho Kurokawa, the same person who created the Nakagin Capsule Tower in Tokyo. Its completion marked a turning point in the modern development of the port district.
The neighborhood name reflects its roots as a Meiji-era port and trading hub, which shows in the mix of restored warehouses standing next to modern buildings today. Walking through the area, visitors can see this contrast between old and new structures side by side.
The observation room on the top floor provides sweeping views of the harbor and cityscape, equipped with digital telescopes for closer viewing. Best plan your visit during clear weather to fully enjoy the vistas.
In the evening, the observation room lighting shifts to orange and is recognized as part of Japan's Night View Heritage collection. This warm glow makes the structure a distinctive focal point in the harbor area after dark.
