Kofu City Takeda Castle Ruins Museum

Kofu City Takeda Castle Ruins Museum is a modern building that houses artifacts and displays about the Takeda clan near Takeda Shrine in Kofu. The collection includes armor, weapons, and documents from feudal Japan arranged to tell the story of this regional power.

The museum opened in 2019 on the grounds of the former Tsutsujigasaki Palace, which was built in 1519 as a residence for three generations of Takeda rulers. This palace was the center of the clan's power in the region during feudal times.

The exhibitions show how the Takeda clan ruled and made decisions through displays of weapons, armor, and official documents from feudal times. You can see how they organized their territory and what daily governance looked like through these historical objects.

The museum is about 15 minutes from Kofu Station by bus with regular services throughout the day. The grounds are right next to Takeda Shrine, so you can easily visit both locations on the same trip.

The museum sits on the exact spot where Takeda Shingen put into practice his belief that people, not walls, form the true foundation of a fortress's strength. This unconventional thinking shaped how the clan built and protected its territory.
