Koshu yume-koji

Koshu yume-koji, Historical street complex at Kofu Station North, Japan

Koshu yume-koji is a district with stone-paved alleys, small streams, and buildings from the Meiji through early Showa periods. The site preserves the typical architecture of an old merchant town with restored structures spanning multiple decades.

The district opened in 2013 and preserves architectural elements from Kofu's castle town dating to the 1800s and 1900s. Its design and focus on merchant culture from that period make it a modern memorial to the past.

The galleries display jewelry collections spanning three centuries and works by local artists in former storehouses, reflecting the region's artistic heritage. Visitors encounter both traditional craftsmanship and contemporary creativity in these converted spaces.

The site is three minutes east of Kofu Station North Exit and has dedicated parking for cars, bicycles, and buses. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since the paved alleys can be explored for several hours.

The site hosts several restaurants serving local specialties from the Yamanashi region, particularly Koshu wine and seasonal fruit. This combination of history, art, and regional cuisine creates a complete experience in one place.
