Ishiochi is a natural cliff in Tsunan featuring steep rock walls that rise above the valleys of Niigata Prefecture. The formation represents the result of long-term geological erosion that shaped the mountainous landscape of the area.

The cliff is best reached by taking the Joetsu Shinkansen to Echigo-Yuzawa Station, then a local bus to Tsunan, followed by a short walk. Winter visits offer the most dramatic views, as snow accumulation transforms the landscape significantly.

During winter months, the cliff face accumulates more than 3 meters of snow, creating natural ice formations that completely transform the landscape. This extreme seasonal change makes the location one of the most visibly altered places in Japan during the coldest season.
