Rissei Garden Hulic Kyoto

Rissei Garden Hulic Kyoto is a modern commercial complex beside the Takase River featuring glass facades and interior spaces shaped by natural daylight. The building houses the Gate Hotel Kyoto Takasegawa and combines retail, lodging, and open areas within a single structure.

The complex opened in 2020 and replaced the former Rissei Elementary School that once occupied this site. The design by Takenaka Corporation reflects the shift of downtown Kyoto from educational use to commerce and tourism.

The building mixes modern design with subtle references to traditional Kyoto architecture that visitors can notice in how the spaces and facades are arranged. This combination of old and new appears in how locals and guests use and move through the complex.

The location is walking distance from many historic sites, making it convenient for exploring central Kyoto. The complex has restaurants, shops, and hotel access with entrances available on several sides of the building.

A distinctive feature is the waterscape garden that many visitors overlook even though it is visible from above. This planted space offers a quiet contrast to the surrounding bustle and shows how the building was designed to include nature.
