尊躰寺

Zontai-ji is a Buddhist temple in the Kinote district of Kofu with a main worship hall and several smaller buildings arranged across its grounds. The temple features gardens and holds spaces for prayer, along with burial grounds that mark its long presence in the area.

The temple was founded between 1521 and 1527 after warlord Takeda Nobutora recovered from illness and established it as a place of devotion. This period marked its creation as an important religious site for the surrounding community.

The temple opens twice yearly on special dates for visitors to observe ceremonies centered on the principal Amida Buddha statue. These rare occasions reveal how people participate in prayer and connect with the place through ritual practice.

The temple is located in the Joto district of Kofu and is accessible by foot or car, with parking available for vehicles and buses. Visitors should plan their trip around the two special opening dates each year, as regular access is limited.

The grounds hold the burial sites of Okubo Nagayasu, a historical official who managed the Sado gold mines and influenced local land development. These graves connect the temple to a broader chapter of regional history.
