Beopjusa

Beopjusa is a Buddhist temple on Mount Deogyu with multiple structures spread across mountainous terrain. The buildings follow traditional Korean architectural styles with prayer halls and stone pagodas integrated into the natural landscape.

The temple was founded in 553 when Buddhism was spreading rapidly through Korea. It has been rebuilt and renovated many times, with different sections dating from various periods.

The temple remains an active place of Buddhist practice where ceremonies happen regularly and visitors can join meditation sessions. You can feel the rhythm of daily rituals that have been maintained across generations.

The temple sits on a mountain, so expect uphill paths and wear proper footwear for walking around the grounds. Overnight stays are possible on the property for visitors who want to experience the place more fully.

The temple houses an impressive wooden Buddha statue standing about 33 meters tall, one of the largest of its kind in Korea. This carving showcases woodworking skills that are rarely seen in modern times.
