Samnyeonsanseong, Mountain fortress in Boeun County, South Korea
Samnyeonsanseong extends along mountain ridges with stone walls incorporating natural rock formations and constructed defensive barriers spanning several kilometers.
Built during the late 5th century, this fortress served as a critical military outpost during conflicts between the Three Kingdoms of Korea.
Archaeological excavations within the fortress walls have uncovered numerous artifacts, including military equipment and daily items from different periods of Korean history.
The site features marked walking paths leading to various sections of the fortress walls, with informational panels explaining the historical significance of each area.
The fortress represents the largest mountain stone fortification in South Korea, positioned at a strategic height that provides views across multiple provinces.
