Trakai Historical National Park

Trakai Historical National Park is a protected area featuring multiple islands, medieval castles, and dense forests spread across a large territory. The park is characterized by several lakes, which host both archaeological features and natural attractions throughout its landscape.

The castles were built starting in the 14th century and served as important residences for the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. These structures played a key role in the region's political history and continue to define the park's appearance today.

The Karaim community, settled here since the 14th century, has kept their traditions alive and shaped the streets with distinctive wooden houses and their own cooking style. Visitors can experience this living culture directly by walking through the old quarters and tasting local dishes.

The park is one of few places in Europe where a medieval fortress on an island within a lake was reconstructed and remains visible today. This rebuilding shows how castles in this region actually looked and functioned in earlier times.
