Trakai Kenesa, Wooden synagogue in Trakai, Lithuania.

Trakai Kenesa is a wooden synagogue located at Karaimų Street with a rectangular footprint crowned by a hipped roof and an octagonal domed ceiling painted in shades of blue. The exterior features ten windows with arched stained glass designs that characterize its architectural style.

The building was constructed in 1894 following multiple fires that had destroyed earlier structures, particularly a major fire in 1824. This wooden construction was built to replace what had been lost and serve the community's needs at that time.

This house of worship belongs to the Karaite community and contains separate spaces for men and women, reflecting their observance of Old Testament teachings. The layout and furnishings show how this religious tradition shapes the way people gather and pray here.

You can see the building from outside while walking through Trakai, though the interior is normally closed to visitors. Watch for notices about special occasions when you might be able to step inside.

A preserved washbasin sits in the porch, once used for ritual cleansing before worship services. This detail reveals the daily religious practices that have been observed here for over a century.
