Legnica County, Administrative district in Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland
Legnica County is an administrative district in Lower Silesian Voivodeship in southwestern Poland. The area contains two main towns and several rural municipalities that form a landscape of settlements interspersed with farmland and open countryside.
The district took its current form in 1999 as part of a major Polish administrative reform that reorganized local government divisions. This restructuring merged several smaller districts and established the boundaries you see today.
The area is shaped by Polish rural traditions, visible in the layout of villages and the way communities organize around local centers. You can see this character reflected in the architecture and how people use public spaces throughout the towns and countryside.
The two main towns serve as good starting points for exploring the area and getting oriented. Keep in mind that Legnica city, though geographically within the district, is administratively separate and operates as its own city county.
The area is made up of multiple municipalities with different administrative types, making it more complex than a simple county. This combination of urban, mixed, and rural municipalities creates a patchwork of governance styles.
