Dwór Thiele-Wincklerów w Katowicach

Dwór Thiele-Wincklerów was a classical 19th-century manor with a distinctive attic and multiple stories set near the present Hotel Katowice on Korfantego Avenue. The building sat within landscaped grounds featuring mature trees and garden elements that reflected the refined tastes of its original owners.

Franz von Winckler, a Prussian industrialist, built this manor in 1841 after acquiring the Bogucice-Katowice estate. The structure remained until 1976, embodying an era when industrial magnates established themselves in Upper Silesia and constructed residences as symbols of their wealth.

The manor served as a gathering place for wealthy families and business leaders of the region. Social events held here reflected the values and aspirations of Silesian industrial society during its expansion.

The site is now part of Silesian Insurgents Park, where visitors can still observe original garden elements and mature trees from the former manor grounds. Walking through the park offers a way to understand the location's past through the preserved landscape design that remains.

Between 1899 and 1924, the avenue where this manor stood was called Schloßstrasse, a name that marked the building's importance in the growing city. The street name itself serves as a historical record of how the residence shaped local geography and identity.
