Silesian Insurgents' Monument, Memorial monument in Katowice, Poland.
The Silesian Insurgents' Monument is a monumental bronze sculpture located in Park Powstańców Śląskich near the Spodek arena. The structure consists of three large wings resting on a granite base, creating a prominent landmark in the city center.
The monument was created in 1967 and commemorates the Silesian uprisings from 1919 to 1921, when regional inhabitants fought for Upper Silesia's incorporation into Poland. Artists Kazimierz Gustaw Zemła and Wojciech Zabłocki designed this work as a gift from Warsaw's residents to the people of the region.
The bronze wings dominate the city landscape and serve as a gathering place where locals and visitors come to reflect. The sculpture functions as a meeting point in the park, keeping daily awareness of those who fought for the region.
The monument stands at the intersection of Korfantego and Roździeńskiego streets in a green park space where visitors can easily walk past or visit intentionally. The area is freely accessible and works well as part of a stroll near the Spodek grounds.
The granite base was originally inscribed with names of battle sites from the uprisings, serving as a written record of the region's pivotal events. These engravings add a layer of historical detail that connects visitors directly to the specific struggles being honored.
