Altus Skyscraper, Office and hotel skyscraper in Katowice, Poland.
The Altus Skyscraper is a combined office and hotel tower in Katowice, Poland, standing 125 meters tall across 30 above-ground floors. It is made up of two wings of different heights, one taller and one shorter, grouped around a shared base.
Work on the tower began in 2001 and finished in 2003, during a period when Katowice was actively looking for new economic directions after the decline of its mining industry. It was one of the first large commercial towers built in the city during that transition.
The Altus tower is seen as a symbol of Katowice's shift away from heavy industry toward a services and finance economy. Its glass facade stands in sharp contrast to the older industrial buildings still visible in other parts of the city.
The tower sits in central Katowice and is easy to reach on foot from the city's main train station. An underground car park is available for those arriving by car.
The building uses an automatic management system that controls heating, ventilation, lighting, and security from a single central point. This kind of integrated system was unusual for a Polish city of Katowice's size when the tower opened.
