Mrówkowiec

Mrówkowiec is a residential skyscraper in Wrocław that contains approximately 590 apartments across 11 floors within its concrete structure. The building features retail spaces at ground level that were originally intended to serve as a commercial hub.

Construction of Mrówkowiec began in 1965 on a site where villas that were destroyed during World War II had once stood. The project emerged as part of post-war urban development in Wrocław and remains a defining feature of the city's landscape.

In 1969, director Sylwester Chęciński selected Mrówkowiec as a filming location for his motion picture 'Only the Dead Will Answer'.

The building is easy to spot from various parts of the city, making it simple to navigate to. The retail spaces at ground level are typically accessible during daytime and offer a good starting point for exploring the surrounding neighborhood.

The building's name translates to 'Ant House' and may refer to its large population or to pharaoh ants that inhabited a nearby German cemetery. This unusual naming choice gives the structure a distinctive local story that continues to draw attention today.
