Observation tower on Mogielica, Observation tower atop Mogielica Mountain, Poland
This steel observation tower rises above Mogielica mountain at over 1170 meters elevation and offers views of the Tatra and Gorce ranges. The structure stands at the mountain's highest point and is accessible through several marked hiking trails.
Mogielica formed as part of the Sudetic Carpathians and has been used by shepherds and hikers for centuries. During World War II, the slopes served as shelter for resistance fighters who received supply drops from above.
The summit is part of the Crown of Polish Mountains program, which encourages hikers to visit and record their time at important peaks across the country.
The yellow trail from the Chyszowki-Slopnice road is the most popular route for visitors and takes about three hours without special equipment. The path is clearly marked, but weather can change quickly, so bring appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear.
On clear days, the observation deck reveals the buildings of Krakow to the north, while four different mountain ranges are visible in other directions. This makes it a rare vantage point where so many ranges can be seen at once.
