Florești

Florești is a residential commune in Cluj County that spreads along the Someșul Mic river. It encompasses three distinct villages—Florești, Luna de Sus, and Tăuți—located within an area of about 61 square kilometers.

Originally called Feneșu Săsesc until 1924, the settlement changed its name as part of broader modernization efforts. This transition reflected the region's evolving identity during that period.

This residential area has grown into a place where people from the nearby city come to build their homes. Today it functions as a suburban community where different groups of residents live alongside one another.

The location sits about 8 kilometers west of Cluj-Napoca, accessible via the DN1 road, making it easy to reach nearby urban services. Its position offers convenient access to the city while keeping the area relatively quiet and residential.

The commune experienced rapid growth between 2011 and 2021, with its population more than doubling. This expansion made it Romania's largest commune by population and reshaped its residential landscape significantly.
