Jezero Barje, Stausee in Serbien
Jezero Barje is a man-made reservoir at the base of Mount Kukavica, created by a 75-meter dam built across the Veternica River canyon. The water body stretches about seven kilometers long, averages 300 meters wide, and reaches a maximum depth of around 25 meters.
The reservoir was constructed between 1984 and 1989 to supply water to the region and prevent flooding from the Veternica River. The dam's completion created a major water storage facility that became essential for the area's water management and agricultural irrigation needs.
The shoreline is steep and difficult to access, so visitors should choose their approach carefully when looking for fishing or walking spots. The best time to visit is during warmer months when weather conditions are stable and paths are more manageable.
The water remains unusually clear because the Veternica River does not pass through populated areas before reaching the lake. This clarity makes the reservoir particularly valuable for water management and for visitors seeking pristine natural conditions.
