Ivan kula

Ivan kula is a fortress situated on Radan Mountain in the Kuršumlija region, featuring a central stone tower supported by thick foundation walls. Ruins of an ancient church lie on the northern side of the site.

The fortress served as a strategic stronghold during medieval times, functioning as a base for the ruler Ivan Kosančić during his military campaigns. The location held importance in the major conflicts that shaped the southern Slavic region in the late 1300s.

The site contains remnants of an ancient church on its northern side, representing the architectural and religious elements of Serbian medieval construction.

The fortress sits on a mountain summit and requires a climb or motorized route to reach the elevated location. Visitors should prepare for uneven ground and weather conditions at higher elevation.

The structure was built on a flattened volcanic cone, giving it a distinctive geological and strategic setting. This volcanic foundation sets the location apart from other fortifications in the region.
