Jerinin grad, Brangović, Medieval fortress ruins in Brangović, Serbia
Jerinin grad is a medieval fortress ruin located in the village of Brangović near Valjevo, stretching across a steep hillside beside the Gradac River. The structure features stone walls that were built with cut stone and lime mortar, making use of natural cliff faces as part of its design.
The fortress was established in the 4th century as the center of a religious community and served for several centuries as an important site. It was eventually abandoned in the 10th century when military conflicts made the region unstable.
This site served as a religious center in earlier times and still shows traces of how people lived and worked here. The ruins reveal connections to craftspeople and worshippers who gathered in this place.
The climb to the fortress is steep and requires good physical fitness, especially in warm weather, so wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water. The best time to visit is spring or fall when temperatures are mild and the paths are easiest to navigate.
The fortress used natural topography in a clever way by integrating steep cliff faces as a fourth defensive line into its system. This made additional walls unnecessary on that side and showed the builders' practical understanding of their environment.
