Udachny

Udachny is a city in Russia's far north built around one of the country's largest diamond mines. It sits on the Markha River at about 380 meters elevation and consists of roughly 38 apartment blocks housing around 12,000 people.

The city arose after the diamond deposit was found in 1955 as a mining settlement and gained town status in 1987. This makes it a relatively young place with a short but defining industrial history.
