Bell Tower, Solikamsk

The Bell Tower of Solikamsk is a stone structure dating to the early 18th century that rises approximately 57 meters above the town's central square. The building leans noticeably from vertical and displays an uneven design with different numbers of stories on opposite sides.

Construction started in fall 1713 but faced interruptions during winter months, causing soil erosion beneath the site. These early building challenges resulted in the permanent lean that the structure still displays today.

The tower displays early 18th-century Russian architectural elements through its octagonal shape and multi-chambered interior design adapted to the sloped ground. This building method was a practical response to the challenging terrain where it stands.

Visitors can climb stairs to reach an observation deck with views across the town and surrounding areas. Lower levels inside contain exhibits about local history and regional heritage.

The tower's asymmetrical design was a deliberate solution to the sloped ground: one side has two stories while the opposite side has four. This uneven layout allowed builders to create a stable building despite the challenging ground conditions.
