Museum of the History of GAZ

The Museum of the History of GAZ is an automotive museum in Nizhny Novgorod that documents the evolution of one of the Soviet Union's major automobile plants. The exhibition displays vehicles from different periods, technical drawings, photographs, and production records spanning more than 90 years of factory operations.

The factory was founded in 1932 and quickly became the Soviet Union's largest automobile manufacturer. During World War II, production shifted to military vehicles and engines, then returned to civilian cars after the war ended.

The museum reflects how the GAZ factory shaped industrial life in the Soviet Union and remains central to the city's identity. Visitors see evidence of how the plant's presence influenced the local community and workforce over many decades.

The museum is housed in a building on Lenin Avenue in the center of the city and is easy to reach on foot or by public transportation. Visitors can plan ahead by checking what exhibition areas are currently accessible or ask staff upon arrival for guidance.
