Дубки, French formal garden in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.
Dubki is a French formal garden in the Sovetsky district of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, laid out with long straight alleys, open lawns, and areas of old oaks, maples, lindens, and firs. The grounds also include sports areas, children's play spaces, picnic zones, and lit footpaths running across the whole site.
The site was created in the 1930s as a place to rest for workers from a nearby factory called the Engine of Revolution. In the decades that followed, formal pathways and seating areas were added to make it more welcoming to the general public.
A central avenue runs through the grounds and serves as a meeting point for people from nearby neighborhoods. On warm evenings, families and young people gather along the lit paths to spend time together.
The lit footpaths make it easy to walk through the grounds after dark, so the park can be enjoyed at different times of day. Parking is available for those arriving by car, and the flat terrain is easy to navigate for visitors with limited mobility.
The name Dubki simply means little oaks in Russian, referring directly to the old oak trees that still stand in the park today. Some of these trees date back to the original planting in the 1930s and have never been cut down.
