Vosstaniya Square

Vosstaniya Square is a city square in Taganrog bounded by Frunze Street, Smirnovsky Lane, Oktyabrskaya Street, and the railway station facade. The location connects multiple streets and forms a central junction for movement through the city center.

The square evolved from pastureland for cattle into an urban center after the railway system was built in the 1860s. In 1935 the location received its current name to honor an armed uprising from 1918.

The square's name marks an armed revolt from 1918, when the place was once called Fair Square. Today visitors encounter a central meeting point where the city's movement concentrates and multiple streets converge.

As a transportation junction the square connects multiple streets and provides access to the railway station for travelers and residents. Visitors can use various routes through the city center that converge at this location.

Brothers Alexander and Anton Chekhov operated a trading stall at this location during the summer of 1873 when the square still functioned as a marketplace. This historical connection demonstrates the place's importance in the local past.
