Zaryadye Park, Urban park near Red Square in Moscow, Russia.
Zaryadye Park is a 13-hectare park next to Red Square in Moscow that presents four landscapes representing Russian climate zones: forest, steppe, tundra, and floodplains. These zones follow descending terraces from street level down toward the river edge.
The site replaced a Soviet-era commercial district in 2017 and became the first new park in Moscow in more than 50 years. The original medieval neighborhood had already disappeared during the 20th century.
The name Zaryadye comes from the medieval phrase meaning behind the merchant rows that once lined Red Square. Visitors today find Moscow residents walking their dogs on the tundra section or sitting by the water features during lunch breaks.
The park is walkable from Red Square, and pathways connect all the terraced levels together. An underground media center offers exhibitions, and the concert hall hosts regular performances.
The floating bridge extends 70 meters (230 feet) over the Moskva River without support pillars in the water. It can carry 240 tons and sways slightly during strong winds.
