Quarters of the 3rd Guard Rifle Regiment, Military building complex in Pushkin, Russia
The Quarters of the 3rd Guard Rifle Regiment is a sprawling building complex set along Kadyetsky Boulevard and Sapernaya Street, with structures in Russian Revival style dating from the early Soviet period. The ensemble includes residential buildings, barracks, and administrative structures that together formed a functioning military residential settlement.
The complex was built between 1914 and 1916 under architect Vladimir Alexandrovich Pokrovsky to house the 3rd Guard Rifle Regiment. Following the Soviet takeover, the site retained its military purpose and was designated a regional cultural heritage site in 1975.
The barracks show how soldiers and their families lived together during the early Soviet period, with housing and administrative buildings grouped in a single complex. It reveals how a military quarter created its own small community within the broader city.
The grounds spread across several blocks and are best explored on foot to observe the various building types and their layout. Be aware that some areas may have restricted access since the complex still serves military purposes.
The ensemble displays an unusual blend of late imperial and early Soviet architecture, as construction began under the tsar and was completed during Soviet rule. This transitional period is reflected in details visitors often overlook.
