Каменский мостовой переход, Vertical lift bridge in Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, Russia
Kaменский Bridge is a vertical lift bridge crossing the Seversky Donets River in Kamensk-Shakhtinsky. It carries road traffic between the city center and the Zavodskoy industrial district on the opposite bank.
A railway bridge originally stood here from 1868 during the development of the Voronezh-Rostov rail line until World War II. The current road bridge opened in 2019 as a modern replacement for the temporary pontoon crossing.
The bridge opening ceremony in December 2019 included placing a time capsule containing messages for future generations, scheduled for opening in December 2069.
The center span lifts about 5 to 6 meters (16 to 20 feet) high when large vessels need to pass underneath. Plan for occasional road closures when the bridge is in lifting operation.
The structure replaced a temporary pontoon crossing after local residents petitioned the Russian President, leading to construction of this modern transportation link.
