The Furtoug Waterfall is a mountain stream in Dzheyrakh Gorge near Ingushetia that drops about 12 meters into a rocky canyon. It forms from underground springs and melting snow, flowing through steep walls of volcanic rock.
The chemist Dmitri Mendeleev visited the waterfall in 1880 during a geological survey of the region. A memorial plaque was installed in 2016 to mark this scientific exploration.
The waterfall reflects a connection between scientific discovery and mountain traditions of the local Ingush people. Visitors can see how this place bridges natural wonder with the region's cultural heritage.
The waterfall is reachable by a walking path of about 400 meters from the parking area in the Dzheyrakh district. The trail follows the river upstream and is accessible to most visitors without special equipment.
