Devdaraki, Valley glacier on Mount Kazbek, Georgia.
Devdaraki is a valley glacier on the northeastern side of Mount Kazbek that stretches across the steep mountainside. It shows the typical features of a mountain glacier with its flowing form and the rocky terrain surrounding it.
Between the 18th and 19th centuries the glacier went through periods of growth that caused problems for settlements in the Dariali Gorge below. This showed the power of glacial movement and its impact on the inhabited valleys.
The glacier is part of how people in the Khevi region understand their mountain home, woven into their sense of place across generations. Visitors see it as a living feature that shapes the character of the landscape around them.
The best time to visit is in the summer months when the mountain trails are more passable and conditions are safest. Access routes start from the Georgian Military Highway and require typical mountain hiking preparation.
The glacier's lower edge reaches down to an unusually low elevation, making it one of the easier glaciers to reach in the region. This accessibility allows many visitors to see a glacial surface without having to climb to extreme heights.
