Main staircase of the Catherine Palace, Decorative staircase in Catherine Palace, Pushkin, Russia

The main staircase of Catherine Palace is an ornate stone structure featuring gold-plated details and white marble steps that lead toward the grand reception halls. Large windows flood the space with natural light while the staircase connects the palace's multiple floors.

The staircase was rebuilt in the 1860s by architect Ippolit Monighetti as part of a major reconstruction project that integrated it with earlier designs by Rastrelli. This renovation followed damage that required the restoration of much of the palace.

The staircase was where guests arrived for important ceremonies and state occasions, passing through the entrance to reach the grand rooms where formal events took place.

The staircase is only accessible through guided tours of the palace, which visitors must join to see the interior. Wearing comfortable shoes is recommended since touring the palace involves walking through multiple levels and rooms.

The staircase spans multiple floors and is illuminated by a system of large windows that fill the space with daylight and highlight the marble work. This natural lighting throughout the design allows visitors to appreciate the ornamental details clearly.
