Kleinmichel Manor, Gothic Revival estate on Krestovka Embankment, Russia
Kleinmichel Manor is a neo-Gothic estate on Krestovka Embankment in Saint Petersburg with distinctive towers, gables, and wrought-iron gates. The building sits near the river and displays the typical features of 19th-century Gothic Revival style.
The manor was originally built in 1834 and acquired by Countess Kleinmichel in 1893, making it a center for grand gatherings. After the Revolution, it served different purposes before being restored in the early 2000s.
The salamander ornament on the gates recalls Count Kleinmichel's bravery during a fire at the Winter Palace. This detail on the entrance tells a story of courage linked to the city's past.
The property is not open to visitors as it now functions as a state reception facility. You can view the neo-Gothic architecture and gates from Krestovka Embankment.
Lenin attended a concert here in 1920 after the property became a workers' club. This reflects how revolutionary changes transformed the use of former aristocratic estates.
