Built in 1898 for Evgenia Gausvald, the wife of a baker, the mansion was designed by architects Vladimir Chagin and Vasily Schöne. It was constructed during a period when prosperous merchants and businessmen in Saint Petersburg were commissioning elaborate summer homes in the Art Nouveau style.

This residence reflects the custom of Russian nobility and merchants spending summers away from the city, with spaces designed for both family living and entertaining guests. The design shows how the wealthy organized their leisure time and social life outside the urban center.
