Mueang Phuket

Mueang Phuket district spans the southern section of Phuket Island, featuring coastal areas with multiple beaches and an urban center known as Phuket Town.

The district, formerly called Thung Kha, received its current name in 1938 and developed from a tin mining center into a major tourism destination.

Wat Chalong, the principal Buddhist temple in the district, stands as a religious center where monks have guided local communities through various historical events.

The district contains eight sub-districts divided into 44 villages, with public transportation connecting beaches, markets, and residential zones through songthaews and buses.

The central area maintains a collection of Sino-Portuguese buildings from the tin mining era, spanning 2.7 square kilometers in Phuket Old Town.
