Nam Yuen

Nam Yuen is an administrative district occupying the southernmost part of Ubon Ratchathani province, positioned near the borders with Laos and Cambodia. The area contains multiple sub-districts and numerous villages spread throughout this border region.

The district was created in 1969 when four sub-districts separated from Det Udom and achieved full district status in 1974. This development established it as an important administrative center in the border region.

Local traditions are visible through ceremonies held at sacred sites where people gather to collect water for healing purposes. These practices reflect the spiritual connection residents maintain with their natural surroundings.

The area is sparsely populated and difficult to reach, as it sits in a remote border zone. Visitors should gather information about safety and access conditions before planning a trip to this district.

The name Nam Yuen translates to long-lasting water, referring to the three rivers Bon, Chong, and Ta Em that flow through the area. These waterways form the backbone of the landscape and local life.
