Chitralada Garden Residence, Royal residence in Dusit, Thailand.
Chitralada Garden Residence is a royal compound in the Dusit district of Bangkok, centered on a two-story main building encircled by a moat. Beyond the residential areas, the grounds also include farming plots and research facilities used by the royal household.
The compound became a permanent royal home after King Bhumibol Adulyadej ascended the throne in the mid-20th century. Over the following decades, the grounds were gradually expanded to include farming and research areas that reflected the king's personal interests.
The compound includes a school founded in 1958 for children of the royal family and palace staff. Visitors walking near the outer walls can occasionally catch a view of the school buildings through the greenery.
The compound is a private royal residence and is not open to the public. The outer perimeter can be seen from public streets in the Dusit area, but entering the grounds requires special authorization.
The property has its own private railway station used exclusively by the royal household. This allows travel within Bangkok without using public transportation, making it one of the few private stations in the city.
